Ashwin Sundar declared FRC Champion ; under scrutiny for 3 races in 2010The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, today officially declared Ashwin Sundar as the Formula Rolon Chevrolet Champion Driver for the year 2009. In the final round of the JK Tyre FMSCI National Racing Championship, held at the Chennai Race Track on 4th Oct 2009, the Stewards excluded Ashwin Sundar, for 'dangerous driving' in both races of the finals (round 6). Ashwin Sundar prefered an appeal to the Indian Motor Sports Appeal Court (IMSAC), the internal tribunal for settlement of any disputes arising out of motorsport in India. The IMSAC Tribunal which heard the appeal, confirmed the decision of 'exclusion' of Ashwin Sundar from Race No.2 of the round 6, but decreed that the penalty of exclusion is disproporationate for the incident in Race No.1. and accordingly set aside the same. However, the IMSAC had issued a 'suspended sentence of suspension' on Ashwin for 3 races in 2010 season. This would effectively mean that Ashwin Sundar is under scrutiny and if found to repeat the offence, the Sentence of Suspension would be invoked. Due to the above IMSAC decision, Ashwin Sundar has been reinstated in the 3rd position in Race 1 of Round 6 and accordingly has a total of 64 points in the overall championship classification. Saran Vikram who had been the unfortunate victim in both the races had to content himself with the runner up title as he also has 64 points, but lose to Ashwin in the number of first places, applying the tie-breaker rule. Gaurav Dalal, who was the provisional champion, after the Stewards decision, finishes third with 63 points. 12th JK Tyre FMSCI NRC : Saturday Race Report Chennai, October 3, 2009 :
Sudarshana Rao of Team TVS Girling and Akhil Devrag of Rams Racing
clinch championship title in Formula LGBSwift and Formula LGB Hyundai
Two championship titles were sealed today as Day 1 of the sixth and final round of the JK Tyre FMSCI National Racing Championship 2009 unfolded at the Madras Motor Race Track near Chennai.
The day proved to be a glorious one for Team TVS Girling and Rams Racing as their drivers acquitted themselves for top honors in Formula LGB Swift and Formula LGB Hyundai categories of the prestigious national event. Sudarshana Rao of Team TVS Girling (see photo on the left) winning the title was on the cards as he was leading the pack with 70 points to his credit before taking to the grid today. Duly, Bangalore based Sudarshana clinched the national title in the Formula LGB Swift class with a race to spare, which is slated for tomorrow. True to his last and fifth round performance, Sudarshana drove a calculated race and never put himself under any pressure. Having enjoyed a lead of 14 point lead over his nearest rival, Prithveen Rajan of Wallace Sports before the event today, Sudarshana needed to finish on board to enhance his chances but rightly he took to the podium finishing third behind Ajay Kini (20:07.405 secs) of Wallace Sports and his team mate S.Narendran (20:13.858 secs) respectively. Sudarshana took 20:17.048 secs to finish third and tallied 76 points to remain on top of the points table. With one more race to be held tomorrow, it is humanly impossible for the other drivers to catch him. Sudarshana said at the end of the race that he was only eyeing to be ahead of Prithveen Rajan and kept up his pace accordingly. “I never wanted to finish first but I was only looking forward to gain as much points as possible. My plan ultimately paid off”, he said. The Formula LGB Hyundai Endurance event turned out to be a pot boiler with both Sudanand Rajan (Wallace Sports) and Akhil Devrag (Ram’s Racings) fighting tooth and nail for finishing high in the concluding event today. Sudanand had a slender two point lead over Akkhi Devrag (see photo on the right) at the start of the event today and the next 45 minutes of duel between them was thrilling. The respective team managements had to strain their brains to calculate the mandatory pit-stop. Both desperately needed the first place finish.Although it was S.Narendran of Team Rams Racing who started on pole, it was a matter of time before his team mate Akhil Devrag moved up and took the lead. Starting in third place, Sudanand moved up past Narendran to be in 2nd place and from then on it was a two way tussle all the way before Akhil finally took the chequered flag clocking 46 min,28:620 secs. Sudanand (46:33.340 secs) and Shravan (47:31.047 secs) came second and third respectively. Since both Akhil and Sudanand were tied with 50 points each, even after count back, both the drivers were on equal on numbers of wins and then as per the Championship rules, Akhil edged out Sudanand for having won the race today. The prime event in the annual calendar, the Formula Rolon Chevrolet category evinced greater interest as privateer Saran Vikram, who took the pole won the event with out much difficulty after a good start. Leading from the beginning, Saran built up a solid lead and never yielded to his followers Gaurav Dalal and event favourite Ashwin Sundar. Saran won the race hands down clocking 18min:31:140 secs. Gaurav Dalal took 18min:34:672 secs and Sundar farther away at 18:35:287 secs. |
